SJO or LIR — which airport fits your trip?

Juan Santamaría (SJO) near San José is the main international gateway — ideal for Manuel Antonio, Arenal, Monteverde, San José city, the Caribbean south, and the Osa Peninsula.

Liberia (LIR) in Guanacaste is the natural entry for Pacific beaches — Tamarindo, Papagayo, Conchal, Nosara, and much of the Nicoya coast — plus convenient access north to La Fortuna.

Many itineraries combine both: fly into LIR for beach time, then a private or shared connection toward Arenal or Manuel Antonio — or the reverse. We coordinate whichever pattern fits your plan.

Guanacaste — Experiences

Pacific beaches, quiet coves, surf, and Guanacaste’s easy pace — a region to enjoy the ocean, nature, and Costa Rica at your own rhythm.

Guanacaste is Costa Rica's driest, sunniest province. World-class surf, volcanic hot springs, and wildlife refuges all within reach.

Things to do

  • Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
  • Surf at Tamarindo & Nosara
  • Sea turtle nesting beaches
  • Dry season: Dec – Apr

Manuel Antonio — Experiences

Lush national park meets white-sand beaches — the most beloved stretch of the Pacific coast.

Things to do

  • Capuchin monkeys in the park
  • Snorkeling at Biesanz Beach
  • National Park hikes
  • Pacific surf & boat tours

Arenal — Experiences

That perfect cone over Lake Arenal — hot springs, green hills, and days that feel wide open.

  • Arenal Volcano views
  • Hot springs at night
  • Hanging bridges & canopy
  • Kayaking on Lake Arenal

Monteverde — Experiences

Misty cloud forests, howler monkeys, and the world's most famous zip-line experience.

Things to do

  • Cloud forest hikes
  • Quetzal bird watching

  • Mystical mist & wildlife

San José — Experiences

Things to do

  • Gold & Jade Museums
  • Mercado Central food experience
  • Teatro Nacional
  • SJO Airport — 20 min away

Osa / Drake — Experiences

The most biodiverse place on Earth — remote rainforest, whale watching, and untouched Pacific wilderness.

Things to do

  • Scarlet macaws & tapirs
  • Humpback whale watching
  • Corcovado National Park
  • Drake Bay — boat access only

Puerto Viejo / Limón — Experiences

Caribbean palms, turquoise water, and that easy Limón pace — boats in the shallows, jungle just behind the sand.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose which region of Costa Rica to explore?

Start with your airport and interests: Liberia (LIR) pairs naturally with Guanacaste beaches; Juan Santamaría (SJO) reaches Manuel Antonio, Arenal, Monteverde, San José, the Caribbean south and Osa. Use the regional tabs on this page — each summarizes highlights, bookable tours we coordinate, and real transport links.

What can I do in Costa Rica beyond private transfers?

Each region offers nature, beaches, culture and adventure — from cloud forest and volcano views to catamaran cruises and national parks. This page is for discovery and planning. Confirmed tour availability and booking live on our private tours catalog; we coordinate ground transport, domestic flights, yachts, helicopters and concierge when you are ready.

Can I combine multiple regions in one trip?

Yes — many guests link Guanacaste beaches with Arenal or Manuel Antonio, or add Monteverde from La Fortuna. We coordinate private transfers, flexible shared connections on scheduled routes, and domestic flights where they save road time. Tell us your sequence and we align each leg.

How do I get around Costa Rica — shared, private or domestic flights?

Shared shuttles work well for flexible per-person travel on scheduled routes from SJO and LIR. Private transfers give you your own vehicle and schedule. Domestic flights connect remote areas such as Drake Bay and Quepos when road time is long. Luxury Pura Vida coordinates all three — choose what fits each leg.

What is the difference between shared shuttle and private transfer?

Shared shuttle: scheduled departures, per-person seats, door-to-door when the route allows — a flexible way to travel with others. Private transfer: your vehicle, your timing, ideal for families, groups or tight connections. Both are premium-coordinated by Luxury Pura Vida, not budget van services.

When do domestic flights make sense in Costa Rica?

Domestic flights help when road transfers would consume a full day — for example reaching Drake Bay, Quepos, Nosara or La Fortuna from San José. We coordinate flight segments with our aviation partners; ground connections can be quoted separately. See our domestic flights page for destinations we serve.

How does Luxury Pura Vida help plan premium experiences?

We curate the full ladder: flexible shared and domestic options, private and VIP ground transport, bookable tours, yacht charters, helicopter connections and luxury concierge for multi-service itineraries.
